This is Kate in a little better mood, dancing on the grass at Boomers. We spent our first day in the desert playing with the kids. Tomorrow we take on the task of getting our first sunburn of the season.

Kate Kate Garden Gate not to happy with the road trip from SLC to Palm Desert. You can almost tell that she noticed the camera and had started to smile but wanted to "work" the tears for a little longer. She got mad at me for giggling at her.

Reid came by the studio to shoot an assignment for his photo class. I shot these as a warm up to the film he shot. This is flash paper and burns for only a second. It was cake getting a shot with the 9 fps digital camera and mostly luck getting one on film.

Emma in her second competition. This is her handstand to dismount. It is funny, I see her perform these perfect routines with so much maturity and poise and think to myself "this is my eight year old baby girl!" Sucks having your youngest grow up. I couldn't be a prouder father.

Gross, I know but still one of my most favorite winter lunches. Sigfried's Deli on Second South. Warm potato salad, red cabbage and a brat with enough mustard to slather it all. This is obviously how I keep myself lean and trim as well as how I keep my blood pressure down too.

We just finished the Salt Lake School District art show at the gallery. The first year of the show I did a painting of some of the flowers the district gave the gallery. This year. . . . . .a photograph.

Shot this car passing the house late this evening. I shot it hand held. I am not sure why but I like the messy bulb shots as compared to the tripod slick time exposures of traffic that are typical seen.

These are the bases for four consoles we did for the Vancouver Temple. At this point they have been hand gold leafed and are awaiting finish to seal and protect the leaf.

This is the completed painting titled "just at this moment." It represents the very moment when the light that follows darkness appears.

Emma in school showing why home school is a better fit for her method of study. She is the first out of bed and has her school work done before most of the house is awake. I was apprehensive when we made the decision to teach the girls at home but the proof is in the pudding and it has proven to be the best decision Jane and I have made. It has been a LOT of work but it has been the best thing we have done. As you can tell from my blogging, I am not the one teaching them to write!

I needed a model to shoot a reference photo for the "First Vision" painting I have been working on. I couldn't find a willing victim so I set up the wireless remote. I have been asked what I experienced while I painted this event. It was not the process of painting that was note worthy but the making of this photograph. "How would I react if. . ."

Lunch at Rico Cafe today. They recently shut down the lunch counter and re-opened with table service and spiffy waiters. I miss the old days. Cool masks on the walls and nice decor with table linens but the menu needs a lot of work.

Another grey day in SLC. Shot from the front door of the gallery. This waiting for spring thing is putting me over the edge. It is either time to take back up winter sports or move to the desert.

My boy John, Child number three, number two bio. John just received his acceptance notice to Art Center School. We are very excited for him and I am a lot jealous. We wish you all the best John Bugs!

This is my first missed day! I know I have one or two days more coming where I either didn't get anything shot or everything I shot was garbage. So I didn't quite make the one photo per day thing so I guess this will be the "As close to one per day as I can get blog." OK, on to tomorrow. . .
