January 27

This was taken at the place where I go to get a "41." "Vermicelli noodle with eggroll and grilled pork." For sure this was one one of those "Who's the weirdo with the camera" moments but it was so "Dornan-esk" I had to shoot it.

Not the greatest photo in the world (depth of field is to shallow and both slippers aren't even in focus) but these are the coolest pair of Elmo slippers ever. The story beneath them is one of my favorite adoption stories ever. It can still bring me to tears just thinking about it. So greatful to have been able to see this one take place and to know that miracles still happen.

Desk junk. I spy with my little eye, a scale! Find it?

"Lady Di" hanging over the headboard talking to the birds out side our bedroom window. "I am ready for my close up now Mr. DeMille."

Welcome to the world Lola Jane Bentley! That makes four for those keeping score. She is less than 24 hours old in this photo and was up and checking everything out. Congratulations Rusty, Erica, Jake, Isabelle, and Kate Kate Garden Gate! We love you all.

Katherine and Emma were at the office with me today and for lunch I took them one of my favorite lunch stops, "Johnny Kolache's." The kolaches are a bread dough stuffed with meat, cheese or fruit and they are great. We finished the meal by sharing one of Johnny's own killer sweet rolls. (The girls shared, I had my own!) Johnny also does a Frito pie. He cuts open a bag of Fritos and ladles in home made chilli then tops it with cheese, jalapenos, and onions. That will light a fire in your belly on a cold Utah day!

This is a Escher-esk view of the gallery. It is the reflection in a burnt out light bulb in one of the old ceiling lights. You can even make out a few of the paintings. My camera and I are lost in the darkness in the center.

"Which one of these sauces is better?" "That one, it's mo bettah." The employees of the fast food place thought I was nuts! Giant camera, big lense and shooting a picture of the sauces!

January 18

Across the street from the studio is Salt Lake's own double decker London bus.

Sunday morning frost on the tree out side my window.

During an early morning trip to FedEx to send off a passport I noticed these cranes with their tops lost in the fog.

January 14

For art class today the kids made kites. They said that the best thing about making them was flying them. I mentioned that some wind would have been nice. They dissagreed saying. "Running is the best part!"

I was walking through the gallery and into my studio, saw my easel. . .

January 11

On Monday evenings I pick up Katherine from dance class out in Centerville. If I get there a little early I can drive all the way east and off the pavement into the foothills above the town. The best sunsets in Utah are seen from the foothills above Bountiful and Centerville. Though this is not a post card sunset, I think this sunset through the fog is kind of cool. Another reason I posted it is because of how much it looks like one of my father in law's paintings. I will save it for you Howard.

Ahhhh, some color! Pears at Target. I wanted to turn the pears around so none of the stickers showed but I think that might have drawn a little too much attention.

January 9

Winter in the Salt Lake valley is best described in shades of grey. The inversion has settled in and this is the most colorful thing you can see outside for days and days. I can't wait to see that big orange thingie in the sky again!

January 8

Oooooo she is going to kill me! Annie had her wisdom teeth removed and this photo was taken shortly after the procedure. The swelling has set in now and she is looking a little more chipmunkish. Love you Annie, heal fast!

Here is what Annie looks like when she is "sparkling." I am sure that she is so happy because she loves it when I point a camera at her and that the "sparkle" has little to do with the young man she's holding in her arms. . .

These are the hands of one of my art class kids. He was messing around with a broken x-acto knife and some leather after class. I was thinking that I would call this picture "There Will Be Blood." And I would call the next picture "Ouch!" Before disaster happened, I made him put the knife down. Didn't get the shot but didn't need any band-aids either.

Today's fortune. "Tomorrow your creative side will shine forth with exceptional ideas." Can't wait to see.

This was my lunch today. There is this great little taco place just west of the studio. "Tacos el Rey de Oros" Three tacos and a drink for $2.75! One of my favorites.

"Tracks in the Snow" If you look closely you can see bird tracks rusted into the rail.

One A Day

Well here it is, my "One A Day" blog. I am going to attempt to shoot and post one photo every day this year and this is where I will be sticking them. Apologies in advance if it takes me a little while to get it up to full speed. Katherine (my 9 year old and pro blogger) was unavailable to help me set this up so I had to wing ding it! Next on to figuring out how to get images from Lightroom to this blog!
